Jamie Insel Named Endicott Women’s Basketball Head Coach (2024)

Posted: Apr 11, 2024

BEVERLY, Mass. — Jamie Insel has been named the next head coach of the Endicott College women's basketball program, as announced earlier today by Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Brian A. Wylie.

"I would like to thank Dr. Wylie and the search committee for entrusting me to lead the women's basketball program," said Insel. "Endicott's commitment to the student-athlete experience and supportive community atmosphere makes this a perfect fit for me. I am so grateful for this opportunity and am eager to get started."

The 2020 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III Assistant Coach of the Year brings a wealth of knowledge to The Nest from all three NCAA Divisions.

"The search committee and I are thrilled that Jamie Insel will be Endicott's next head women's basketball coach. Her playing and coaching experience, along with her strengths in building confidence amongst her student-athletes, and genuinely connecting and building strong relationships separated her from a very strong applicant field," said Wylie. "This, coupled with her passion and ability to articulate a clear plan for our program shined above. We look forward to her continuing to build upon the foundation that has been set, and are most enthusiastic about her experiences with student-athlete development and leadership."

Insel most recently spent last season as an assistant coach at Boston University (BU), where she aided the Terriers to a 20-12 overall record, a 10-8 conference mark, and an appearance in the Patriot League Championship.

She was responsible for game preparation and practice planning, assisting with all areas of recruiting, and post player development, while serving as the academic liaison for the program, and coordinating team and individual community service engagements.

Before her time with BU, Insel served as the lead assistant/recruiting coordinator at Dartmouth College for the 2022-23 season.

She was entrusted with all recruiting endeavors, scouting reports, game preparation, practice planning, post player development, and weekly skill workout/film sessions.

Insel made the jump to the NCAA Division I level following a standout three-year tenure at Tufts University (2019-22), where she was selected as the 2020 WBCA Assistant Coach of the Year and chosen to the organization's Thirty Under 30 program.

In 2019-20, Tufts was ranked No. 1 in the country for 12 straight weeks and produced the longest winning streak in program history at 26 victories (undefeated regular season).

The Jumbos also went 22-5 overall (8-2 NESCAC) and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season in 2021-22.

In those two campaigns, Insel aided Tufts to a 50-6 overall record (.893) and an 18-2 conference mark (.900) through her efforts in recruiting, post player development, scouting, and on-court instruction in practices and games.

The Clinton, New Jersey native previously served as an assistant coach/interim head coach at Colby College (2017-19) and assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at MIT (2014-17).

At Colby, Insel created game plans through scouting reports and film analysis, programmed strength & conditioning phases for her student-athletes, instructed skill development workouts, and fostered an environment for self-growth by developing leadership skills with her captains and leadership council.

Both of her stops at Colby and Tufts involved secondary duties with strength & conditioning and game management.

Meanwhile, at MIT, Insel learned the coaching ropes from current Memphis Grizzlies (NBA) assistant coach Sonia Raman.

Insel gained valuable knowledge in the areas of scouting, player development, film evaluation, and analytics.

She also recruited the 2015-16 D3hoops.com Northeast Region Rookie of the Year, the 2015-16 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rookie of the Year, and the 2017-18 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year during her time in Cambridge.

Prior to her coaching career, Insel was a four-year member of the Assumption University (NCAA DII) women's basketball program.

Insel led the Greyhounds to their first NE10 finals appearance in program history (2012-13), guided three teams to the NCAA Tournament (2010-11, 2012-14), was named to the 2012-13 NE10 All-Tournament Team, and captained the squad her senior year averaging 9.2 points per game, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 29 contests.

From 2010-14, Assumption compiled a 79-37 overall record (.681) and a 62-25 league record (.713) in one of the most preeminent Division II women's basketball conferences in the country.

Since 2011-12, NE10 women's basketball programs have appeared in eight Elite 8's, two Final Fours, and captured one NCAA Division II National Championship (Bentley, 2013-14).

Insel graduated from Assumption with a Bachelor of Arts in Management in 2014. She later obtained her Master's in Business Administration from Thomas College in 2020.

Coach Insel will start officially on April 22, 2024.
