This remains my favorite shot of Cavil. His hair also looked A LOT better here lol.

Great photo. I remember all the excitement and optimism when that was released.

I remember the back and forth of does he or does he not have the red trunks and the complaints about his hair.

At this point, before they cast a new superman, they had better lock in a competent Director who has the resume and personality needed to evoke some confidence in the brand.

Right now, Warner Bros and the DC Universe are the biggest jokes out there. Their reactionary tactics are just sad and pathetic, while their treatment of crew and cast members are deplorable.

Frankly, I will only find myself getting excited again once Warner Bros successfully makes a great superman trilogy.

Wait, what?

Mario Robles still teasing McQuarrie & Superman.

Even saying one of the X-men First Class writers has offered to do a draft of All Star Superman for McQuarrie.

There was so much potential for Superman on film to be great again. I still supported Snyder around that era.

I supported Snyder right until MOS came out. The marketing was great, probably top 10 for me in most anticipated CBM before release.

Oh yeah. Say whatever you want about the movie itself, but the marketing was perfect.

I still love MOS...but I also know it could have been much better for everyone else. Snyder just didnt give Cavill enough material to shine. And extra 10 minutes could have changed a lot of people's perceptions of the film.

The blame isn't all on Snyder. I put most of the blame on Goyer and Nolan and WB. These are two writers who are known for making dark films. Heck even Snyder is some what on the darker side when it comes to his films not as much as Nolan and Goyer. WB brought Goyer and Nolan in because their success with The Dark Knight. Which was a terrible idea sense Superman is not a dark Character.

Yet as much as Man of Steel didn't live up to peoples expectations it was not beyond redemption. All they need to do was make a sequel and smooth out the rough edges. To do that they need to bring in all new writers. Writers that will have a better grasp on Superman. Second is keep Snyder in the directing chair and out of the the script writing aspect of things. Third is to have faith in the character. People want to see a Superman movie but they want a good Superman movie.

It sad because WB wants to be Marvel but they don't want to put the time and effort in to it like Marvel did. They also want to be Marvel but want to be the exact opposite of Marvel. What they need to do was find a middle ground. I think they could follow Marvel model for most part. They need to have general idea of story arch. They need to focus on individual character and have faith in those characters. I think they need to tone down the seriousness of the films. However I don't think they should have nearly the amount of Humor that Marvel has in their films. The most important part is they need to make the films fun. I can't speak for every one but part what love about Marvel is that even with all the dark elements with in their films I still come out feel like it was fun movie. I mean Infinity war was a dark and messed up movie but at the end of the day they made the film fun and had just enough humor to keep the movie from being a drag. This is what WB needs to learn.

Sadly it's to late for that.

I'm generally a fan of Snyder's films but I entirely agree with that.

I always felt the level of humour displayed in the X-Men films would have been about right.

why y'all keep calling MoS And BvS "Dark" the movies are serious not "dark". Darkest thing is Lex's threat of immolating Martha.

Snyder got Superman past the Hard Part and the part nobody wanted to watch, his journey to becoming Superman.

Personally I wnat more Superman films that have the kind of depth and thoughtfulness of MOS and BVS, but I understand there is a large support for a more light-hearted take.
I wonder if a good compromise would be simultaneous live action and animated films, the way Spider-Man has Spider-verse and Batman has Lego.
Perhaps WB could release a Pixar style Superman movie completely separate from the DCEU.

Someday we'll get a modern Superman movie that is balanced. We'll see what the inevitable reboot brings.

I think adding some scenes at the end of MOS where he sees how much damage he’s caused and showing him help reconstruct and rebuild the city intercut with interviews on people’s opinion of Superman which should be mixed. It would be similar to the Avengers but something like this would have been better than the abrupt Clark Kent reporter ending we got

As much as I like MOS only Superman the movie and some of the animated films and JL episodes have really captured the majesty and magic of Superman. All Star Superman comic series really shows his scientific knowledge but also the magic and grandeur of Superman with the radiant uniqie objects and biosphere in the Fortress of Solitude and just the overall design elements. I hope Supergirl or the next Superman film doesnt just balance the tone but also really captures these beautiful almost fantasy-like elements and moments from the comics.

I can't speak for every one else I can only speak for myself. They didn't set up the characters to well in Man of Steel. They blow through a lot of things like Lois knowing Clark is an alien and has super powers and been helping people. They didn't really establish Clark becoming a reporter very well. The film was more about over the top fights and explosions. So as an origin story yes see him become Superman was great but it didn't setup the characters very well. This major problem with the film. You have this massive threat to work but that threat means nothing because the audience have no vested interest in the characters really. The reason why is because they didn't give us time to get to know them.

My personal opinion is they should have kept the story line tighter. It should focused setting up characters like Lois, Lex; it should have set up Clark becoming Superman and saving people and the movie should dealt with the public reaction to existence of Superman. It also should have set up Clark Kent as a reporter and the working relationship between Lois and Clark Kent. This aspect of the movie felt rushed and not very well developed in my opinion. The fight should been more tight and personal and not on a global scale.

At least that's what I think. Man of Steel wasn't horrible just not as good as I think it could been.

You're only assuming they blew through Lois's reaction to Clark because of storytelling that's been done before with different characters. Since she never knew him as two different people, it's a lot less for her to process and therefore doesn't function as a game changer in a pre-existing relationship.

As it stands in Man of Steel, Lois met a strange man who made her feel safe after she felt scared from being attacked and hearing him admit he can do extraordinary things. She became curious, wrote a story to learn more about the guy and get closer to him, tracked him down and learned more about his character from witnesses and acquaintances, and ultimately got to visit his childhood home, meet his mother, and learn some of the most intimate details of the man's life. All of that is much more substantive than what any other cinematic Lois went through learning that aliens exist or that Clark is Superman.

Clark becoming a reporter is also barely covered in other incarnations that don't receive the same level of disdain and rejection. Why is he a reporter in Superman (1978), for example? Yet, that didn't stop people from caring. At least in MOS, it's implied that Clark is inspired and gets the idea to be a journalist and work at the DP because of his interactions with Lois, which is only made richer in BvS when we get to see his passion for reporting.

So, considering superman is definitely not a priority for wb/dc, when do you think he'll get a new movie?

If Cavill's definitely out at least another 5 or 6 years is my guess.
