Garry Francis Day

Garry Francis Day, 78, of Greentown, died at 4:25 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Ascension /St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. He was born November 1, 1945, in Galveston to Frank and Dorothy (Smith) Day. His stepmother was Phyllis Day.

Garry was a 1963 graduate of Kokomo High School and was a member of the sheet metal workers Local 20. He retired as Shop Foreman from Graves Sheet Metal in Kokomo with over 30 years of service. His hobby’s included fishing, gardening, hunting, bird watching and wine making. He also loved to travel.

Surviving family include his children, David R. (Jim Coblentz) Day of Indianapolis, Deborah Cooley of New Palestine, and Patricia Day of Kokomo. Grandchildren include, Zackary Myers of Washington D.C., Madison Myers, Ethan Day and Logan Day, all of Kokomo. Garry is also survived by two sisters, Becky Dieselburg of Kokomo and Pamela (Jeff) Vaughn of Fairview Heights, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, and stepmother, sister Janet Stahl and son-in-law Ted Cooley.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 12 noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Collins officiating and burial will follow in the Galveston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or Charity of Donor’s Choice. Arletta Lee Baxter

Arletta Lee Baxter, 87, of Tipton, Indiana, passed away April 11, 2024. She was born on March 21, 1937, in Tipton, Indiana, the daughter of Arthur Cleman and Ruby Pauline (Burris) Plake. On June 14, 2008, Arletta married the late, Paul Baxter. Arletta loved tending to her flower garden, crosswords, playing scrabble, and most of all talking with her family. She enjoyed sharing, spending time with her friends, and a good laugh.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Lonnie (Cyndi) Morrison, Anita (Steve) Dungan, Tina (Dan) O'Vadka; grandchildren, Carmen (Doug) McCool, Travis (Kate) Dungan; great-grandchildren, Luke (Antionette) McCool, Raegan McCool; siblings, Jeanne, Sonny, Vickie; several nieces and nephews; and furry companion, Jo’ie.

Arletta was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Sherry, Chuck, Jack.

Demitri Volikas Linville

It is with heavy hearts we share that Demitri Volikas Linville, 28, of Kokomo, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024. He was born November 28, 1995, in Kokomo, and was the son of Toula Volikas and Christopher J. Linville.

Demitri graduated from Western High School in 2013, where he enjoyed playing football. He loved his family with all his heart, and he lived for his two young nephews, Louie and Armani. He adored spending time with them and going to their baseball games and sporting events. Demitri had a generous spirit and a big heart for his family and friends, and he was proud of his Greek heritage. He kept his family entertained with his keen sense of humor, and he was always seen with a big smile. He had an unbreakable bond with his older sister, Ali, whom he loved and looked up to. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his mother and father; sister, Ali Linville; grandmother, Virginia Linville; nephews, Louie Linville and Armani Banks; aunts, Maria (Dan) Ondrik, Vicki (Brad) Andrews, Gina (Larry) Ballard, and Nicki (Gary) Fuller; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard Linville, Louie Volikas, and Sophia Volikas; uncle, Dino Volikas; and great-uncle, Michael Volikas.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Father Philip Lashbrook officiating. John Franklin Boyd

John Franklin Boyd, age 84, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at The Waters in Tipton. John was born on March 1, 1940, in Elwood, to his parents, Guerine and Bessie (Calvin) Boyd. On July 13, 1963, he married the love of his life, Shirley K. Dickerson. The two enjoyed 39 years of marriage, before Shirley passed away in 2002.

John graduated from Tipton High School in the class of 1958. He then went on to proudly serve in the United States Army. Upon returning to civilian life, John farmed and raised livestock. He had a meticulous work ethic and always provided well for his family.

Anyone who knew John would tell you he was a friendly and kindhearted man. He had a knack for making people feel valued and appreciated. He had the gift of gab and could talk to anybody about anything. John was a very proud husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him!

Those left to carry on John’s legacy of love are his children, Kevin Boyd of Tipton, Kathy Baugher of Tipton; grandchildren, Zack Baugher (Kiersten) of Kempton, Olivia Baugher of Noblesville; and one great grandchild, Hazel Grace Baugher.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Boyd; parents, Guerine and Bessie Boyd; sister, Marjorie Strebin; and brother, Harold “Fred” Boyd.

A graveside service celebrating John’s life will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Nevada Cemetery with Pastor Pete McGuire officiating.

Amber Kathleen Harpe

Amber Kathleen Harpe, 71, of Tipton died peacefully on April 10, 2024, at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was born in Valparaiso, Indiana, on September 23, 1952, to Glenn Eldon and Dorothy Sue (Stoddard) Smith. Amber married Allen Lee Harpe on May 6, 1972, the couple enjoying over 51 years together.

Amber was a graduate of Tipton High School, Class of 1970. She would then graduate with an Associate’s of Science degree in nursing from Indiana Central College in 1972. Amber would then go on to earn a Bachelor’s and then her Master’s in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Amber devoted herself to her profession as a registered nurse until she retired in 2019. When she began her career as an RN, Amber worked in the OB department. She would later transition to home healthcare at the VNA in Elwood and Howard Community Hospital. She later served as VP and opened a homecare nursing agency through Tipton at Home. She finished her nursing career by lending her expertise as a clinical nursing educator at Community Hospital Anderson. After retiring Amber was instrumental in starting the Alexandria-Monroe HS/Essential Senior Health & Living’s CNA Pathways Program whose graduates fed into the CNA Apprenticeship Program, the first of its kind in the state.

Amber’s faith in Jesus was very important to her and she loved to study God's word. As a child she attended Trinity Wesleyan Church then later attended both Trinity and Ash Street Wesleyan Churches as well as East Side Church of God in Anderson. She cherished her family. When they came into her life, Amber’s grandchildren took center stage, and she enjoyed every athletic or scholastic event she attended. She was always up for a spontaneous trip and enjoyed hosting family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Allen, children Audrey Wetz and husband Chad of Lafayette, Mike Harpe and wife Andrea of Fairmount, and Gregg Harpe and wife Beth of Alexandria. Siblings include: Dawn Huguenard of Anderson, Gregg Smith and wife Carol of Hamilton, MI, Tammy Gamble and husband Donnie of Peru, Lori Shuler and husband Cort of Ft. Wayne, Patty Fry and husband Scott of Albany, and Shelley Huff and husband Ron of Tipton. Amber was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Mason, Dylan and Rylea Wetz; Denver, Conway, Turner and Hudson Harpe, and Katelyn, Owen and Lily Harpe. Extended family includes her sister-in-law Carolyn Stamps and husband Rex along with several nieces and nephews.

Amber was preceded in death by her sibling Cynthia Lee Smith and her father Glenn Eldon Smith.

The family will receive friends on Monday April 15, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home. A family memorial service with Rev. Carl T. Johnson

Carl T. Johnson, age 88, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. He was born June 18, 1935, in Munising, Michigan, to Charles and Lillian (Humphery) Johnson. He attended high school in upper peninsula Michigan and upon graduation, enlisted in the Navy. He served on the USS Shangri La during the Korean war and received an honorable discharge. After serving in the Navy, he married Barbara Johnson, and they had 3 sons. He worked for Chrysler, retiring in 1993, after 30 years.

Carl enjoyed his time with work friends (outside of work), fishing, and NASCAR racing (Jeff Gordon was his favorite). He loved his grandkids and great-granddaughter dearly.

He is survived by sons, Alan (Terry) Johnson and Dane Johnson; grandchildren, Lauren Johnson, Ashlynn Johnson, and Alana Johnson; and great-granddaughter, Teagan Devenport.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, wife, Barbara, and son, Carl Jr.

There will be a memorial gathering for Carl on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Sunset Memory Garden, 2097 W. Alto Rd., Kokomo, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

William A. Parslow Sr.

William A. Parslow Sr., age 82, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at his home with his wife at his side. William was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Solvay, New York to John S. Parslow and Vida M. Parslow (Craft).

William was raised in Erieville, New York. He graduated from Cazenovia High School in 1960. He joined the United States Air Force in the summer of 1960 and served until the summer of 1964. Most of his service time was spent at Bunker Hill AFB (Now Grissom) where he worked as a mechanic on B-58s. During his service time, he met Linda Welsh whom he later married in 1966. The couple moved to Seattle where Bill worked at Boeing before returning to Kokomo in 1968. Bill went to work at Delco and worked there 30 years before retiring in 1999. He was in skilled trades as a Tinsmith.

Bill was a long-time member of the Cassville Lions Club serving two terms as President. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching his sons and grandchildren at their various sports and school activities. He was very proud of and devoted to his family. Bill coached his sons in little league baseball and served as Cub Master for their Cub Scout Pack.

He was always willing to lend a hand to help anyone who needed help. He would work on your car, help build your house, or help in any way that he could.

Bill and Linda had attended Cassville UMC.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Linda (Welsh) Parslow; sons, William Jr. (Maria Stark), John (Angela), and Mark A. Parslow; and grandchildren, Veronica Taylor, William A. Parslow III (Julia), Ian Parslow (Sara Wauter), Aurora (Austin) Young, Noah Parslow, and Charles Parslow; and one great-grandchild, Eve Michele Parslow.

He also leaves behind two sisters, Hope Palmer, of New York and Faith Page and her son, Neil and his family, of New York. In-laws, Sandra Welsh, James Welsh, Peggy Richey, Patsy LeMaster, and Brad Welsh, including their spouses, children, and grandchildren.

Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and brother-in-law. He will be greatly missed.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alzheimer's Association or Parkinson's Association.

There will be a time of visitation for William on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at 4:00 P.M. at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana. Full military rites will be performed by the United States Air Force and VFW Post #1152 Military Rites Team.
